Apple Butter Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing

Praise the Lord, my soul. Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty. . . ” Psalm 104:1

Apple Butter Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing would be perfect for your Thanksgiving or Christmas breakfast.  Not only are they absolutely delicious but they are so easy to make.

Using frozen bread dough takes the headache of making your own dough and waiting for it to rise a few times.  With Apple Butter Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing, it only rises one time, right before it goes into the oven.

You can definitely use your own apple butter recipe or you can do what I do and use one that you find at your local grocer.  Because you are using jar apple butter, you can make these rolls all year long.

I had to make this recipe a few times because I was having an issue with being too sticky.  I wanted a dryer roll so they could be iced and the first two times they made a natural glaze.  They tasted great, but it wasn’t what I wanted.  The trick is to drain the apple butter in a fine mesh sieve for about 15 minutes.  This helps it from being too runny making it hard to roll and too sticky.

Give Apple Butter Rolls with Cream Cheese Icing the next time you want something seasonal but not complex to make.  A cup of coffee or hot tea is the perfect compliment to these rolls.

Mama Fawn’s Tips. . .

  •  Follow the directions on the package on  how to thaw the dough.
  • I usually set the package of dough in the refrigerator the night before I made it.
  • It’s important that the butter and cream cheese is softened to room temperature before making the rolls.
  • Do not omit draining the apple butter before making these rolls.  This is essential to the texture.
  • Light or dark brown sugar is fine to use.
  • You can either use a baking pan or a muffin pan to make the rolls.
  • If you are using a baking pan, line it with parchment paper.
  • Spray the muffin pan with baking spray if this is what you are using.

  • ½ tsp heavy cream

  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted, if needed

  • Let rolls rise until double the size (1-2 hours).
  • Bake the rolls in a 350 degree preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool.
