Puff Monte Cristos

Puff Monte Cristos

I love you, Lord, my strength. . .” Psalm 18:1

Monte Cristo’s are a frequent sandwich you see in pubs and cafes around the world. Puff Monte Cristos are a much easier way to prepare this delicious sandwich.

This is a sandwich my husband commonly orders when he sees it on the menu.  It is typically fried and topped with powdered sugar and served with raspberry preserves.  Think of it as a “french toast sandwich”.

What makes Puff Monte Cristos special?

 1.  It’s so easy.

2. It’s baked. It only takes a few minutes to prepare and in minutes you have a yummy lunch or even fix them as an appetizer.  You don’t have to dip your sandwich in a custard, frying it in a skillet, so not so much mess.  You do everything on one pan so I guess you can consider it a one pan meal.  🙂

I think you and your family will be pleasantly surprised how good Puff Monte Cristos will be.

Mama Fawn’s Tips. . .

  • Make sure the puff pastry is thawed completely.  This will make it easy to roll out
  • If you want a thicker sandwich, feel free to add more meat and/or cheese.
  • Make sure you press the puff pastry together so you don’t have any of the cheese melts out.
  • Microwave the extra raspberry preserves for about 30 seconds for easy dipping.
  • To make it as an appetizer, cut the sandwiches into smaller slices.
  • If you are not fond of turkey and ham, then use just one of the meats.  It will still be so yummy.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg of Puff Pastry

  • ¼ cup raspberry or strawberry preserves

  • ¼ lb deli ham, thinly sliced

  • ¼ lb deli turkey, thinly sliced

  • ¼ lb sliced havarti

  • Powdered sugar

  • Additional preserves

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unfold one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Roll out with a lightly floured rolling pin to just short of the size of the baking sheet.
  • Spread the raspberry preserves over the pastry sheet, leaving a ½-1 inch border.
  • Layer the sliced turkey over the preserves. Place the sliced ham over the turkey and finish off with havarti.
  • Unfold the second pastry sheet and roll out to the same size as the first pastry sheet. Place the pastry sheet over the first pastry sheet. With a floured fork, seal the pastry sheets together, making sure there aren’t any open gaps.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before dusting the powdered sugar over it. Serve immediately with the extra raspberry preserves. Enjoy!
