Apple Butter Bars will make your home smell like fall.
I have had this recipe for over 30 years and it has never failed me. The spices and apple butter truly makes this the perfect dessert for the fall (and all the rest of the seasons… 😉 )
All the ingredients are combined in one bowl and in the oven within minutes. You will want to make them over and over again.
Mama Fawn’s Tips. . .
- You can find Apple Butter in the peanut butter/jam aisle.
- You want to make sure you pack the brown sugar so you get all the yummy sweetness in your bars.
- Softening the butter helps the ingredients to combine well.
- Make sure you level all the dry ingredients.
- Drizzle the glaze on a completely cooled bars.
- Don’t throw away the paper the butter comes in. Grease your baking pan with the butter paper. It will save you time and effort.

½ cup butter, softened
1 ½ c. flour
½ cup packed brown sugar
¼ cup sugar
1 egg
¾ cup apple butter
½ tsp baking soda
¼ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 cup raisins
1 cup powdered sugar
¼ tsp vanilla
1 to 2 tbsp milk
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- In a mixing bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add half of the flour, brown sugar, sugar, egg, apple butter, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Beat until thoroughly combined. Stir in remaining flour. Stir in raisins. Spread mixture in a greased 13×9 baking dish. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in a pan on a wire rack.
- Meanwhile, in another mixing bowl, stir together 1 cup powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until icing is drizzling consistency.
- Once the bars are cooled, drizzle with the icing. Enjoy!
