Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your gracious Spirit lead me forward on a firm footing…Psalms 143:10
Walnut-Chive Cheese Spread brings back memories of my grandmother. Once my family moved to Florida when I was twelve years old, we would go to my grandparents house every Thanksgiving. My grandmother would prepare a big dinner for Thanksgiving that would include this cheese spread. Now my grandmother, being from Indiana, would also make Oyster Dressing…not my favorite. Actually, I wouldn’t eat it at all. Just couldn’t. Not to offend those who do or would like it, I just didn’t even want it on my plate. Thank goodness my mom did not follow that tradition. My mom makes a great corn-bread dressing that I will eat and enjoy…but back to the Walnut-Chive Cheese Spread….
When I got older, my grandmother, knowing I enjoyed cooking, taught me how to make this easy spread and this is how I have this recipe. The original recipe actually had garlic juice in it but I cannot find it in the store I shop at. If you can, use it. It brings a nice flavor to it. I use a combination of garlic powder and garlic salt and it still tastes like I remember it. Grandma always stuffed it in celery. Not the greatest fan of celery but I would eat it because of the cheese spread. That’s how yummy it is. I now just put it in a bowl and serve it with crackers but if you like celery, then try it that way. It’s how it originally was to be served.
